Volunteering from home

Volunteering expenses – additional costs for volunteering from home- 18 Jan Update

HMRC clarification- There is no change to volunteering expenses as a result of Coronavirus.

Volunteers can be reimbursed on additional costs as a result of volunteering.

Volunteers can be reimbursed for volunteering at home, but these will need to be additional costs incurred as a result of volunteering from home, and not on costs incurred from being at home normally.

Volunteers will need to show evidence that additional costs have been incurred over what they would have already been paying for items such as phone or internet use.

Reimbursement cannot be partial or a contribution, but full cost and evidence needs to be provided.

As always it is important the there is an audit trail for expenses reimbursed. Volunteers need to provide full evidence to claim reimbursement.

It is important that this is part of your written policy.
